WHAT IS SEMAGLUTIDE FOR WEIGHT LOSS?

Semaglutide is a medication that was originally developed for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. However, in recent years, it has also been studied for its potential use in weight management.

When used for weight loss, semaglutide is typically given at a higher dose than when it is used for diabetes treatment. It is given as a once-weekly injection and works by activating GLP-1 receptors in the brain, which helps to reduce appetite and increase feelings of fullness. By reducing food intake and promoting weight loss, semaglutide may be a useful tool for people who are struggling with obesity or being overweight.

In clinical trials, semaglutide has been shown to be effective in promoting weight loss. For example, a study published in the New England Journal of Medicine in 2021 found that people who received semaglutide for 68 weeks lost an average of 15.3% of their body weight, compared to 2.4% in the placebo group.

WHAT IS TIRZEPATIDE FOR WEIGHT LOSS?

Tirzepatide is a medication that is currently being developed by Eli Lilly and Company for the treatment of type 2 diabetes, but it has also been studied for its potential use in weight management.

Similar to semaglutide, tirzepatide works by activating GLP-1 receptors in the brain, which helps to reduce appetite and increase feelings of fullness. However, tirzepatide also activates GIP receptors, which stimulates insulin secretion from the pancreas in response to food intake. By targeting both GIP and GLP-1 receptors, tirzepatide has been shown to be more effective in lowering blood sugar levels and promoting weight loss than GLP-1 receptor agonists alone.

In clinical trials, tirzepatide has shown promising results in promoting weight loss. For example, a phase II clinical trial published in The Lancet in 2021 found that people who received tirzepatide for 26 weeks lost an average of 11.3% of their body weight, compared to 2.4% in the placebo group.

WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SEMAGLUTIDE AND TIRZEPATIDE

Semaglutide and Tirzepatide are both injectable medications used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes, but they work in slightly different ways.

Semaglutide is a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist, which means that it works by mimicking the effects of GLP-1, a hormone produced in the gut that stimulates insulin secretion, reduces glucagon secretion, and slows down gastric emptying. By activating GLP-1 receptors, semaglutide helps to lower blood sugar levels and promote weight loss.

Tirzepatide, on the other hand, is a dual glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) and GLP-1 receptor agonist. In addition to activating GLP-1 receptors like Semaglutide, it also activates GIP receptors, which stimulates insulin secretion from the pancreas in response to food intake. By targeting both GIP and GLP-1 receptors, Tirzepatide has been shown to be more effective in lowering blood sugar levels and promoting weight loss than GLP-1 receptor agonists alone.

In terms of dosing, Semaglutide is available in a once-weekly injectable form, while tirzepatide is also a once-weekly injectable medication. However, Tirzepatide comes in higher doses than semaglutide, and it has been shown to be more effective at lowering blood sugar levels and promoting weight loss in clinical trials.

Overall, both Semaglutide and Tirzepatide are effective medications for the treatment of type 2 diabetes, but they work through different mechanisms and have different dosing requirements. The choice between the two medications may depend on the individual patient’s needs and preferences, as well as their response to the medication.

All about compounded medications

Compounding is the art and science of creating customized medications for patients per thenprescription orders of licensed prescribing practitioners (Dr, NP. PA).
The practice ofcompounding is highly regulated by the Texas State Board of Pharmacy as well as the FDA.
Congress passed the Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act which called for creation of the FDA. The act contains very rigorous standards for compounding pharmacies within the DQSA chapters of the act.
There are several patented brands and dosage forms of Semaglutide and Tirzepatide including injectables and oral tablets.
Despite the inability of the manufacturers to keep up with demand, they understandably resent compounding pharmacies and actively disseminate disinformation, implying compounders are not qualified to produce safe and effective products.
To date, there have been no reports of patient harm from compounded Semaglutide other than the most commonly listed side effects seen with the branded Semaglutide which would include nausea, vomiting, and slowed bowel transit times. When patients see negative media reporting concerning compounded Semaglutide, they would be well advised to consider the purpose behind the negative reporting- to create an emotional bias against compounding pharmacy and their products.
To establish trust and confidence in your choice of compounding pharmacy, we highly suggest patients:
  • Visit their compounding pharmacy, take a tour of the facility noting cleanroom
cleanliness, proper garbing/gowning and sterile techniques used.
  • Ask for copies of the required testing of sterile products from independent analytical labs including proof of sterility and endotoxin tests on each production batch as well as
    potency of the active ingredient.
  • Ask for copies of the last inspection from the Texas State Board of Pharmacy compliance
    officers.

SEMAGLUTIDE & TIRZEPATIDE FOR WEIGHT LOSS FAQ

What is Semaglutide (aka Ozempic)?
  • Semaglutide is an FDA approved injectable glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) agonist that is administered once weekly to aid in weight loss. In a clinical trial, participants taking Semaglutide lost 15% of their body weight, on average.
How does Semaglutide work?
  • Semaglutide is a GLP-1 agonist, mimicking the action of incretin hormones that play a role in your appetite and digestion. Incretins are hormones released by your small intestine and are sent out to your body after you have eaten a meal. The incretins trigger insulin production and block other sources of sugar. This is how your body stabilizes your blood sugar.   Semaglutide also slows gastric emptying , which is how quickly food leaves your stomach after eating.  This causes you to feel full longer, which decreases your appetite and aids in losing weight. Lastly, Semaglutide works at the hunger center of your brain to dampen your appetite. Semaglutide promotes weight loss by empowering you to eat fewer calories on a daily basis.
What is Tirzepatide (aka Mounjaro)?
  • Tirzepatide is an FDA approved injectable glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) agonist that is administered once weekly to aid in weight loss. In a clinical trial, participants taking Tirzepatide lost 15% of their body weight, on average.
How does Tirzepatide work?
  • Tirzepatide is a GLP-1 and GIP agonist, mimicking the action of incretin hormones that play a role in your appetite and digestion. Incretins are hormones released by your small intestine and are sent out to your body after you have eaten a meal. The incretins trigger insulin production and block other sources of sugar. This is how your body stabilizes your blood sugar.   Tirzepatide also slows gastric emptying , which is how quickly food leaves your stomach after eating.  This causes you to feel full longer, which decreases your appetite and aids in losing weight. Lastly, Tirzepatide works at the hunger center of your brain to dampen your appetite. Tirzepatide promotes weight loss by empowering you to eat less calories on a daily basis.
How do I get Semaglutide or Tirzepatide?
  • You can schedule your zoom consultation with one of our Nurse Practitioners through our booking link https://booknow.appointment-plus.com/b1e97bl4/. At your consultation, we will go over your medical history, review the dosing protocol, and teach you how to self inject the Semaglutide or Tirzepatide. After payment, we send your prescription to the pharmacy and they will ship you the medication within one week.
I am already on Semaglutide or Tirzpeatide from another provider, can I change over to Aesthetics Concierge of Texas?

Yes, you can move your care to one of our board certified providers. However, you will still need to complete the virtual consultation.

I am on a higher dose of Semaglutide or Tirzpepatide from another pharmacy, can I continue on a higher dose if I switch my care to ACT?

Yes, we can start you on your current dosing, provided you are not experiencing negative side effects. Please note, the highest dosing we prescribe for Semaglutide is 1mg, and for Tirzepatide is 10mg (weekly subcutaneous dosing). Also, please be aware that our packages do not last as long as the initial advertised package if you are on higher dosing.

Why does a friend sourcing their products from another pharmacy inject a different amount of units than I do for the same dose?

Each pharmacy concentrates their prescriptions differently. At Aesthetics Concierge of Texas, we source from Las Colinas Pharmacy, because their quality is unrivaled. Their concentration of each medication is as follows: Tirzepatide/Cyanocobalamin 20mg / 0.5mg/mL Injection Solution Semaglutide/Pyridoxine 2.4mg / 25mg/mL Injection Solution

Does it hurt to self inject the Semaglutide or Tirzepatide?
  • You will self inject the Semaglutide or Tirzepatide using a very small insulin sized syringe/needle. At your consultation, we will teach you how to properly draw up and administer the Semaglutide or Tirzepatide. The injection goes into the subcutaneous tissue around your stomach. It feels like a little pinch when the small needle goes in, so it is not very painful. If you prefer not to self inject, you can have an adult family member inject your Semaglutide or Tirzepatide.
What are the side effects of Semaglutide and Tirzepatide?
  • The most common side effects are GI related. Constipation and some underlying queasiness are common when you first start the medication, and each time you go up in dosing. Rarely, pt’s will report severe nausea the week after starting Semaglutide or Tirzepatide. If this happens, we call in Zofran to your preferred pharmacy.
How do you lose weight on Semaglutide or Tirzepatide?
  • Semaglutide empowers you to eat less calories by reducing your appetite. Patients typically report less hunger, less cravings, getting full faster, and staying full longer. It is important to understand the way you lose weight is being at a calorie deficit each day. During your consultation, we review dietary and calorie recommendations.
Aesthetics Concierge of Texas initial Semaglutide protocol lasts four months. Aesthetics Concierge of Texas initial Tirzepatide protocol lasts four months. What do I do after I finish the medication?
    • There are three different options after you finish your initial round of Semaglutide or Tirzepatide:
    1. If you have obtained your desired weight goal, you can quit using Semaglutide or Tirzepatide. Your stomach will have become smaller, and your habits will have changed. These help you to maintain weight loss.
    2. If you have obtained your desired weight goal, you can also purchase another round of Semaglutide or Tirzepatide, and titrate back to a lower maintenance dose. This will help you to maintain a decreased appetite to ensure you don’t regain the weight.
    3. If you still have more weight to lose, we will evaluate what dosing you should continue on, and you can purchase another round of Semaglutide or Tirzepatide in order to continue the medication.
